Manu Tour from Cusco – Details
How long is the drive from Cusco?
The travel time expected for this tour is 6 hours to reach a Tropical Rainforest of 640 meters in elevation (Guadalupe Lodge), In fact, this is the time needed to traverse 2 large geographical regions (Andean mountains – Tropical Rainforest) plus Cloud Forest.
You get an overland experience, and there are no unnecessary stops to be expected during this journey. Of course for toilet facilities, stretch-out legs, or pictures of the sunset. Actually, Manu Road is almost all paved.
You will encounter some of the best views and diverse environments. Densely populated, the cloud forest is home to epiphytes, orchids, bromeliads, lichens, and more. The evidence of plant diversity here is so grand at these elevations.
We embark from the Atalaya Port & Town, to travel downstream for somewhat 1 hour. Reaching the vicinity of Machuwasy Lagoon at elevations below 500 meters above sea level.
A motorized canoe-like embarkation (12 meters long and 2 meters wide with a roof to prevent any sudden rain or sunshine).
These types of boats are the most ideal for fast-flowing rivers. Even relaxing a little, while just floating along the cascades. The chances are also high to observe aquatic birds along the shores, dwelling in the reeds and not to mention, the strange-looking capybaras.
Other Activities Manu Tours from Cusco
Caves near Guadalupe Lodge
The caves are only a 10-minute walk from Lodge. Originated by creek erosion, the canyon is a natural formation. This area has cut into the mountain, and as a result has created an environment that harbors species that evolved in the darkness: bats, tailless whip scorpions.
Visiting the Hoatzin Home
The Hoatzin Kingdom is exactly what it says on the tin. These bizarre “Hoatzin” birds that you will see around this Kingdom can be seen in large flocks. Quite a tolerant animal, and for that reason, these birds can be observed at close range.
Even more, you can easily get clear and bright pictures of them while exploring this beautiful lagoon in Manu.
Our express tour is carefully crafted to provide the perfect balance between exploration and relaxation. After an exhilarating day of wildlife encounters and exciting activities, unwind in comfortable lodgings nestled within the rainforest.

We LOVED our experience in the Amazon Rainforest and would definitely recommend tagging it onto your Machu Picchu trip. We only stayed in the rainforest 1 night which was pretty quick since it’s about a 5 hour drive in and out without stops (and you’ll definitely take stops to see the wildlife, Incan tombs, etc.). But we started at 5am both days so we were really able to make the most of it! Our driver Simon and tour guide Alexis were such a pleasure to be with, it felt like they were friends by the end! You can tell they both love nature and the wildlife so it was fun getting to experience that passion. On the first day we saw tons of beautiful waterfalls, birds and monkeys on our way into the rainforest. When we got to the lodge we were surprised that the accommodations were modest but much better than camping and the food they cooked us was delicious! We went on a night cave & rainforest hike where we saw lots more wildlife too (bats, frogs, birds, and more monkeys)! On day 2 we got to take a motor boat out to an area of the forest that we hiked through and arrived at a calm water passage where we got to go in a wooden raft to a tall outlook and another forest trail! We saw so many birds and monkeys and the scenery was breathtaking. Then we started our drive back to Cusco, stopping part way for lunch. If you get motion sickness I’d definitely recommend bringing medicine as I felt pretty sick on the drive back due to lots of windy roads. But Simon was an excellent driver and navigated the tough roads with ease! We can tell Alexis is an experienced guide and always felt safe with him even when deep in the rainforest. Overall it was an incredible experience with lots of laughs and beautiful nature! If you’re coming to Peru you don’t want to miss this!

We picked Manu Jungle Explorer 2 Days tour as we did not have more time. But I wish we could stay longer. It was experience of a lifetime. Our guide was Luis, he was super nice and knowledgeable and he adjusted the program to us. Would definitely recommend! Saw lots of different birds, monkeys, spiders, some frogs, etc ... Got to try some new fruit too. Trip on the boat was really cool too. You definitely get a lot for your your money.

We did the 2 days, 1 night program and enjoyed the trip. Day 1 was completely packed with a 6-hour journey, then 40 mins boat ride, then a 60-minute hike through the jungle, followed by a ride on a raft down a small river. We then made our way to our lodge, had dinner, and then did a hike at night. Day 2 was more relaxed but still very fun. While both days were action-packed, we enjoyed our trip. Our guide (Edwin), our driver, and even the group we were in were all phenomenally fun and kind individuals. This was a major highlight of our trip to Perú. Thank you once again for a phenomenal experience!

My husband and I booked the 2 day Manu National Park to start our Peru trip. It was a wonderful experience! Our guide, Edwin, was very knowledgeable and could tell he loves his job. He knew where to look for all the jungle birds and monkeys! We we so lucky and we're able to see 3 species of monkeys! Edwin also taught us a lot about the trees, plants, and the many agriculture that is grown along the reserve. Our drivers and supporting staff throughout our two days were exceptional! One of the highlights was a nice dip in the river after a long day . Although our visit to the jungle was short, it was perfect for the short amount of time we had in Peru! Muchas gracias !

My family and I had a great experience along this tour, we have a delayed flight but tour plans did not change at all, the team was extremely flexible. We been guided and drove by Luis. He has a lot of experience and knows the ins and outs about all of the wildlife and fauna we encountered. He is also very kind and funny. We saw all kinds of frogs, monkeys, snake, macaws and insects. Definitely recommended despite this is their shortest tour listed

I can’t speak highly enough about our experience, we were picked up from the airport in Cusco and drove straight to the Manu road We went on a bunch of activities on the day second including the motorboat trip which was a lot of fun, It seems more like white water rafting! We saw a couple of monkeys by the lake and amazing birdlife close to the rafts. If you’re going to Cusco and want to explore the rainforest and not having much time, I highly recommend these guys, besides the 5-star service, the trips are also done in the most sustainable way, which goes to show that these guys care about the environment.
